Title: My Meal
Title (Original Language): 我的一餐饭
Year: 2017
Words in the Drawing: “I stayed at chalet no. 473 at East Section previously. I stayed together with three ladies. The Section Attendant distributed some vegetables and chicken to us every day. We cooked in the chalet. We usually cooked Chinese food. We cooked together and had meals together. We were very happy. Now I am old and I am not able to cook anymore. I have to eat those meals provided by the ward. It has been a long time I haven’t eaten Chinese food. When we were young, our settlement was very busy and fun. There were outsiders who sponsored Chinese Opera frequently. We usually took our rattan chairs to grab seats at 4pm in order to watch the performance. Sometimes we quarreled with others in order to grab better seats. Ha! Ha! I was a member of Buddhist temple and Guang Xi association. I donated RM1.20 every month. Last time, the association used to organise tea party annually. Dai Bao (Chinese large steamed bun) and Lo Mai Gai (Steamed sticky rice with chicken) must be served. We also had fun fair every year with a lot of lights and lanterns. It was so lively! Unfortunately there was no smartphone previously. If not, we could take photos and show to all of you. All of you would definitely laugh!”

Title: Kids Pay A Visit to My Home
Title (Original Language): 来我家的小孩
Year: 2017
Words in the Drawing: “Last time, when I stayed at chalet, there were many kids who liked to visit me. Some of them even requested to stay overnight at my house. Kids were running around my house but I never felt that they were noisy or disturbing. My best friend, Meng Choo, had two children. They were raised by church. During school holidays, her children would definitely come to visit me. I gave them a ride on my bicycle. I brought them everywhere. I also brought them to visit my mother. My mother stayed at Boon Tuan Farm, which was close to our settlement. She was staying alone. She raised chickens and planted vegetables for a living. I usually brought along those kids to visit my mother. I helped her to wash clothes and cook meals. She passed away in her 90s. However, now, I am reaching the age of 90. I am staying at the ward. Meng Choo’s children visit me every year and they give me Ang Pow with hundreds in it. They love me very much. ”

Title: My House
Title (Original Language): 我家
Year: 2017
Words in the Drawing: “I planted flowers in front of my house previously. There was a tree beside the chalet. Four of us stayed together. The chalet was small and narrow. It was too small with no space to move around. That time, there were some kids who had just been discharged from the ward. We treated them like our children too. We took care of them. We also cooked meals for them. They helped us to do some house chores. I really liked kids very much. When they saw me, they usually cuddled me, just like my own children. I had a few friends who worked during day time. Their children came to my house right after school. I helped them to take shower and cooked meals for them. I took care of them. As a result, each of them called me ‘godmother’. I saw them growing up. I had a son but he passed away due to illness when he was only 5-6 month old. ”
