Words in the Drawing: “ I come from Kuala Lipis, Pahang. In the family are my parents and a younger brother. In 1947, while I was harvesting rice, I accidentally cut my finger and was sent to the hospital. The doctor cut a small piece of flesh from my nose for testing, and the result said that I was infected with leprosy, hence, I was detained. I was only 14 years old when I was admitted to the hospital. I studied for 4 years there and after graduation I focused on searching for a job in order to earn money. At that time, there were many young girls in the courtyard, but I was not interested to socialize with them. I was very poor then, and I thought, even if I were to win a girl’s heart, there will be successive problems in later life. During that time, a bowl of noodle cost three cents, and I could only earn three dollars a day. I knew that young Mulan, who lived in the female hostel, had feelings for me but after I went for a leg amputation due to ulceration, and after a few months of recuperation, I found out that Mulan had married. Alas, this is my fate. ”

Title: Adventure

Title (Original Language): 探险

Year: 2019

Words in the Drawing: “ I was sent to the Children's ward when I was 14 years old. There were twenty-four children living in the ward. Each morning we would go and take medicines together and then go for breakfast. After that, we would queue up and take turns to drink milk. We were taken care of by a ward leader ‘Kepala’.
Every Friday afternoon the hospital would arrange for us to go to church, to hear the sister preach about Jesus. We were unwilling to go and hid under the bed to read comic books instead. In those days the bed sheets were very long and could cover us from being discovered. But later, when we were discovered by the ‘Kepala’, we could not hide under the bed anymore, and were then sent to listen to the bible talk.
When I was first admitted to the hospital, some of the wardmates used to bully me. However, we were children and not vengeful. Very quickly we played together and became friends. After school, we would meet together and go to the forest to catch monitor lizards. Those were really happy times. ”
